Riots in response to the death of George Floyd have forced officials to lock down the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City, according to The Hill.
Protesters have thrown Molotov cocktails and rocks at the embassy, according to the embassy's regional security office.
“They have become violent,” according to a notice obtained by The Hill.
“The embassy remained locked down. All personnel should avoid the area,” the notice continued.
Mexican media organizations said protesters vandalized the embassy, which dots a heavily traveled road that runs near a Mexican independence monument.
Protests the prior night were reportedly peaceful, as people lit candles around signs that rejected racism and showing the names of police brutality victims.
